Jim
Truc, President/CEO and co-owner of Pakon, Inc. passed away suddenly
November 28th, 2002 at the age of 60. Jim was a marine corporal (Tactical
Marine Rifle Squad) in the early 1960s and a 1967 graduate of Northern
Illinois University with a degree in marketing. He spent seven years with
Dupont and ten years with Pako Corporation.
In 1985 he bought the slide mount division from Pako (with no money down)
and started Pakon, Inc. of Minnetonka. Under his guidance Pakon went from a
low tech to a leading edge company and from a negative net worth to a value
thirty times earnings - by taking advantage of change. He developed the
culture of Pakon to be one of the mutual trust and respect along with a
willingness to have fun! In the late 1990s he founded IMPAK and developed a
leading edge approach to high speed scanning of photographic negatives. The
technology developed the Pakon/IMPAK caught the eye of Kodak Corporation
and led to Kodak's acquisition of Pakon in 2001. Jim was excited that this
new technology will dramatically change how national mass merchandisers
process and market photographic prints.
He serves on the NOREX Advisory Board and on numerous boards for other
companies in the Twin Cities area. Jim was a mentor and friend to many in
the business community. He was highly respected by his business compatriots
for his wisdom on how to treat employees and customers. The photographic
industry has lost a very unique and respected individual!
His friends, business associates and family describe Jim as personable,
fun-loving, unassuming, ambitious, create, loyal, considerate, optimistic,
energetic and unconditionally loving and caring to all.
Jim is survived by loving wife Judy; daughters, Julie (Eric) Larson, Leslie
Truc and Nichol Gilgenbach; grandsons, Gavin and Dylan Larson; sister, Deb
(Ron) Gruberg; nephew Brad Schuber; aunts, Gladys Truc and Lydia Franz;
Patricia Truc; other relatives and many many friends.
He will be sorely missed.
